The British Gas GBR Synchronised Swimming Team has helped to launch the UK’s first Synchronised Swimming Club for people with Down Syndrome.
"I am proud our athletes can inspire people into our sport"
In 2012 GBR Team Coach Lolli Montico and High Performance Manager Lauren Smith set up the first Synchronised Swimming World Championships for people with Down Syndrome in Italy.
Montico is also the current Synchro Technical Director for the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation.
Smith said: “It’s great to see a Synchronised Swimming Club for people with Down Syndrome set up in the UK. The team did a wonderful job performing at the opening night and it was brilliant to see so many people wanting to try out synchronised swimming with such passion and determination.
“I am proud that our national athletes got the opportunity to inspire people into our sport and show that it is accessible to people of all levels and abilities. I can’t wait to see this club develop further and show that they can be a force to be reckoned with in competition.”
