The second day of the British Gas Synchro Championships 2014 saw more stunning performances and well choreographed routines at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
In the international Free Solo, Canada’s Jacqueline Simoneau took gold with a perfect mixture of elegance and power, making the technical spins and presentation seem effortless (87.6667).
Great Britain’s Genevieve Randall’s routine was action packed from start to finish, securing her a silver medal, with beautiful presentation and engagement with the audience and judges (77.6000).
Genevieve Randall commented on her performance, “It went really well, I achieved a lot of the corrections I was set from my coach, it was really nice to have the support of the crowd and my team.”
The Netherlands’ Margot de Graaf surpassed her performance in the Technical Solo yesterday to get gold in the international senior event, using every beat of Cirque de Soleil to show off her artistic and technical abilities, recording a score of 81.6000.

Bronze was awarded to Walsall’s SC’s Eleanor Holder whose flexibility and high level of technical difficulty gave her an edge over the competition (66.5333).
In the International Technical Duet, a beautifully choreographed routine from the Canadian team earned them the gold with a score of 84.1726.
The Netherlands duet caught the crowd’s attention with their Super Mario inspired routine. The duo took every opportunity to show off their co-ordination and height in their figures to claim a silver medal (78.0615). No bronze medal was awarded.
In the domestic Technical Duet, Fiona Currie and Olivia Monks from Trafford SSC were rewarded with a gold medal for their impressive use of the pool space and strong lifts (60.7680).
Eleanor Holder and Kate Reynolds from Walsall SSC looked strong throughout with a good use of height, scoring 59.1599 for the silver medal. Bronze went to Lucy Rouse and Madison Griffith from City of Birmingham SC for an original routine and good positioning, but a slight lack of height and timing issues lost them a few points (50.9509).
In the Technical Team event, Bristol Central SC (64.2413) demonstrated strong extra figures to steal the top spot from reigning champions, Rushmoor SC. Rushmoor started strongly and used the pool well, including lots of pattern change and clean and crisp arm and leg movements to secure a silver medal finish with 63.6136 points. The bronze went to Reading Royals who narrowly missed out on silver following an incredible head first throw with plenty of height (63.4047).
In the Technical Solo Walsall SC’s Eleanor Holder snatched gold with a dynamic performance (65.9559). Bristol Central’s Emma Holloway came a close second after a calmer, more poignant routine which really highlighted her confidence in the water (65.0917). A score of 62.3063 secured the bronze medal for Shannon Mcginty from City of Preston SC whose Les Mis interpretation showcased a lot of skill and strength.
In the Free Combination, Rushmoor SC’s precise control, excellent pool movement and quick, seamless transitions led them to the win with a score of 71.4667. They were followed closely by Bristol Central SC, whose impressive double lift and energetic routine scored 71.4000. Bronze was awarded to Reading Royals SC whose quick pattern changes and high level of technical difficulty kept them strong contenders throughout their routine (66.9000).
