The British team took to the pool for Team Free prelims, the fourth event of the Synchronised Swimming competition at the LEN European Aquatics Championships in London and closed it in eighth place.

The Free team, made up of Katie Clark, Hannah Randall, Emma Critchely, Kate Shortman, Jorja Brown, Phoebe Bradley-Smith, Zoe James, Danielle Cooper and reserves Olivia Federici & Lara Hockin finished with a score of 78.9667 and ranked in eighth place.

Youngest member of the team Kate Shortman, who made her senior international debut at the Championships, said: “It’s really really exciting, I had some nerves coming into London but I’m just glad that all my hard work has paid off and the team did really well this morning.

“The crowd were amazing and so loud as well; they made us feel so much more confident as we walked on,” added Shortman.

All 10 teams from the preliminary round progress to the final on Friday afternoon to compete for the European title and medals.

“We’re really happy with that prelim performance and we had fun, we’re going to make some improvements and we hope we can push our score past 80,” added Shortman.
