British Swimming will continue to engage UK Sport, Sport England and the Minister for Sport in an effort to promote synchronised swimming after a legal challenge over the processes used in UK Sport’s decision to withdraw funding from the sport was not upheld.
British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes said: “We are clearly disappointed with the outcome of the hearing but accept the independent panel’s decision with a heavy heart. We remain convinced that we had a world class programme and coach, and with investment synchronised swimming would have delivered medals while encouraging more young women into the sport.”
The appeal was heard by an independent panel of experts appointed by Sport Resolutions (SRUK).
British Swimming Chairman Maurice Watkins commented: “Whilst we are disappointed by the result, the grounds on which we could appeal were limited. We are now working with the synchro community to find a way forward for the future.”
The decision comes as the British Synchronised Swimming team is preparing to travel to Berlin this month to compete at the European Championships.
Without continued funding, it will be the squad’s last international competition following the departure of National Performance Director and Head Coach, Biz Price, earlier this year.
