Country’s best divers ready to take on world

8 Jul 2014

The British Gas GBR Diving team is putting the finishing touches to their World Cup preparations at a holding camp in Xian ahead of competition beginning on 15 July in Shanghai.

Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley is returning to world level competition after the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona where he finished sixth.

Daley will compete in the 10m Platform and face up to his Chinese rival Qiu Bo who is reigning World Champion on the top board.

Since moving to London in January, Daley has been working hard in his new programme and is hoping to see the pay off from that in China.

World Series medallists Jack Laugher and Chris Mears will team up in the 3m Synchro as they try to build on their experience at their first major international together.

The pair teamed up for the first time in April and have won three medals through the World Series with silver in the Mexico leg.

Laugher will also compete in 3m Springboard and with new confidence from his first World Series individual medals he will be eager to show that he has what it takes to compete on the world level.

Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow go into the World Cup as reigning bronze medallists from the 2012 event and after winning European medals in 2012 and 2013 the pair will be looking to continue to show they are the best in British female Platform diving.

In the women’s 3m Rebecca Gallantree, Hannah Starling and Alicia Blagg continue to impress and improve for the Brits.

While Blagg missed the majority of this year's World Series with injury, she returned to winning ways with gold at the British Gas Diving Championships in June.
