Paris Olympic medal-winning duo Tom Daley and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix have been recognised among European Aquatics' Athletes of the Year after contributing to a record-breaking 2024 season.
Spendolini-Sirieix and Daley won Best Female Diver and Best Male Diver of 2024 respectively, having both stepped on to the Paris podium last summer and claiming multiple medals at February's World Aquatics Championships in Doha, on top of consistent podium placings at the Diving World Cup series.
As further recognition for the best year of her career to date, Andrea has also been named Young Sportswoman of the Year at The Sunday Times' Sportswomen of the Year Awards.
The year began with a best-ever diving medal haul of seven for Aquatics GB at the Doha World Championships - including the Mixed Team title for Daley and Spendolini-Sirieix, alongside Scarlett Mew Jensen and Dan Goodfellow, plus Men's 10m Synchro silver for Daley and Noah Williams, Women's 10m Synchro bronze for Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson, and a historic first-ever British medal in the Women's 10m Platform, as Andrea took the bronze.
Momentum built towards the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Paris in July and August, where Daley and Williams' 10m Synchro silver was followed by bronze in the women's equivalent for Spendolini-Sirieix and Toulson - part of a record five haul of medals for Team GB divers at a single Games.
Such was the success of the entire Aquatics GB diving programme last year, there were three other divers on the European Aquatics shortlist - with Scarlett Mew Jensen and Lois Toulson making the Best Female Diver top five after their own maiden Olympic-medal-winning moments and triumphs at World Champs, while Noah Williams - who partnered Tom to that Men's 10m Synchro silver in Paris before soaring to individual Men's 10m Platform bronze on the final day of the Olympic programme - made the men's shortlist.
Speaking about her award, Andrea said: "I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for me, I'm so honoured to be European Aquatics Female Diver of the Year. I appreciate everyone's support and this year has honestly been incredible - not just the competitions, but all the memories I've made as well, and I just appreciate everyone who has voted for me. I couldn't do this without my family, my friends, my coach, my support staff and everyone online and that comes to watch competitions, I really couldn't do it without you guys."
Tom added: "A huge thank you for voting me Male European Diver of the Year. I was nominated with some incredible athletes in Jules [Bouyer], Matteo [Santoro], Oleksii [Sereda] and of course, Noah. Noah is my synchro diving partner and I have to share this award with him, because without him, I wouldn't have been able to dive this year - but now, as a retired athlete, it really brings everything to a close really nicely, to be able to win this award again.
"So I'd like to dedicate this to Noah, because without him, I wouldn't have been at those Olympic Games, diving in that competition - and of course, my coach Jane Figueiredo, and then everyone who has supported me outside of the diving pool, my husband, my kids, my mum and all of my friends."
Results for European Aquatics Athlete of the Year Awards are taken from a combination of public voting, through the European Aquatics website, and votes from Technical Committees and National Federations.
