A host of British Diving talent will descend on Edinburgh’s Royal Commonwealth Pool for the Scottish National Diving Championships inc. British Diving Cup 2023, which will round out a memorable year on the boards from 14th-17th December.
With the most recent edition of the competition having taken place in February of this year at the same venue, the athletes will be used to an environment which has played host to a number of memorable moments over the decades since its construction for the 1970 Commonwealth Games.
Scottish Swimming will be co-hosting the event – combining their annual national championships with British Swimming’s National Diving Cup, which will see athletes from both competitions competing alongside each other at a key point in the season.
The event will serve as the selection event for the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, which in-turn carries potential qualification spots for next summer’s Olympic Games in Paris. Last year’s individual National Diving Cup champions Jack Laugher, Noah Williams, Yasmin Harper and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix are all in line to compete across four days of action.
Four-time Olympian Tom Daley could also feature at the competition, after the 29-year-old Olympic champion made a return to training for the first time since his triumph in Tokyo.
Entries for the event are now open and can be viewed on the event page, with entries closing on Thursday 23rd November at 1pm.
Speaking on the announcement, British Swimming’s Associate Performance Director Tim Jones gave an insight into how the competition can be a key opportunity for those looking to make Team GB’s squad for the Games in Paris next summer.
“The Scottish National Diving Championships inc. British Diving Cup 2023 provides our athletes with a platform to develop what they have learned since the previous summer and worked on so far this season in training, whilst continuing to ensure that their peak performances come at those big events in the coming months,” said Jones.
“We give enormous thanks to Scottish Swimming for allowing us to add our event on to their traditional national championships, whilst still allowing for the two respective competitions to hold their own weight at such a stage in the season.
“The previous competition in February was well received and we look forward to returning to Edinburgh in December to round-out what has been an incredibly successful year for British Diving, with eyes now very firmly fixed on a massive 2024 ahead.”
Tickets for the Scottish National Diving Championships inc. British Diving Cup 2023 will be available at the venue on the day of competition for each individual session.
