Physio Ziyambi departs after making major diving impact

8 Jan 2025

Experienced physiotherapist Gareth Ziyambi has left his role as Senior Consultant Physiotherapist with the Aquatics GB diving team after a historic 2024 season.

Gareth has been involved with senior British diving teams since 2006, playing a crucial part in ensuring the country's best divers were able to reach Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships in the best physical state to deliver medal-winning performances, as well as ensuring their fitness throughout those key competition moments too.

There have been countless memorable moments across five Olympics and multiple Worlds and European campaigns in that time, with Gareth part of the Team GB diving outfit that recorded a record haul of five medals at Paris 2024 in the summer - with his poolside photography and celebrations alongside coach Jane Figueiredo also becoming essential parts of major international diving competitions for GB.

Speaking about his move, Gareth said: “I have been privileged to work with the sport for 18 years, seeing and contributing to its journey from being rank outsiders where we struggled to make European finals to achieving the vision set by Alexei [Diving Head Coach Alexei Evangulov] in 2009 to achieve Olympic medals on all boards, both male and female. A huge thank you to all the staff, coaches and especially to all the divers, past and present. Wishing you all the best for the future!”

Matt Ashman, Aquatics GB's Associate Director Sports Science and Sports Medicine, added: "Gareth has had a huge impact on the Aquatics GB diving programme for close to two decades, bringing valuable skills, experience and immense positivity to training and competitions the world over. His work with our athletes has helped them to be in the optimal position to deliver continually outstanding results at international level over recent times. He will be greatly missed in the diving community, and everyone at Aquatics GB wishes him all the best for the future."
