Sandwell set to host 2024 Elite Junior Diving Champs

4 Mar 2024

The British Elite Junior Diving Championships return for 2024, with the Sandwell Aquatics Centre hosting the leading junior talent in the country over the four-day domestic diving event from 11th-14th April.

The former Commonwealth Games venue will host a first national diving competition since the Home Nations took to the boards at Birmingham 2022, with Britain’s next generation contesting for age-group national titles this April.

A key event on the performance pathway, the Elite Juniors programme will once again feature individual and synchronised events across the 3m Springboard and Platform categories, as well as individual competitions off the 1m Springboard. The three age-group categories are as follows: Group C - 13 years and under; Group B - 14-15 years old; Group A - 16-18 years old.

Event entries are now open, with spectator seating also on sale - allowing fans to play their part in the action by creating an encouraging atmosphere from the stands for the nation’s leading junior diving talent.

Following Great Britain’s positive performance at the European Junior Diving Championships in Croatia last August - with three golds among a total of eight medals achieved, the British Elite Junior Diving Championships marks an opportunity for consideration towards the British teams attending internationals in the upcoming season, with both European and World Junior Championships set to take place in 2024.

Jen Leeming, Performance Pathway Lead for Olympic Diving, spoke of her excitement ahead of the event.

"As we build into another important year for the sport, this Elite Junior Diving Championships again promises to be a high-quality event with a fantastic standard of competition - providing our young divers with the opportunity to test all the hard work they have put in across months of training, as well as aiding them in their transition into the senior ranks.

“It's great also that we are now able to bring a first national event to the Sandwell Aquatics Centre. The development of this venue for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games has created greater access to high quality diving facilities in the West Midlands, and the hosting of events such as this intends to further encourage the growth of grassroots structures being developed within the region.”
