Silver and bronze for GB in Canada

The British Gas GBR Diving Team won silver and bronze in the women’s 10m Synchro and Men’s 3m Synchro respectively on the first day of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series in Canada.

Former European champions Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow repeated their silver medal performance from the London leg with another impressive performance in Canada.

The pair scored 101 for their required dives and continued to score consistently through the optional rounds.

Their highest scoring dive came in the final round with 77.76 points for the Back 2 ½ Somersaults 1 1/3 Twists piked.

They finished behind the Canadian pair with a score of 311.10. Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito took gold with 330.75 and bronze was won by Australia’s Emily Boyd and Lara Tarvit with 308.58 points.

Competing in only their third competition together, Chris Mears and Jack Laugher won bronze to continue their form from the Russian leg of the FINA/NVC World Series last month.

Mears and Laugher lay in fifth place after the required dives but they scored over 80 points for the first two optional dives to pull themselves up to second place.

They finished the competition with a total score of 424.35 points to win their second bronze medal of the FINA/NVC World Series.

China’s Lin Yue and Cao Yuan won gold with a score of 460.08 and silver went to Stephan Feck and Patrick Hausding (Germany) with 424.53 points.

Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree finished in sixth place in the 3m Synchro with a score of 291.99 in their first competition together since Beijing.
