The nomination process has now opened for the 2014 Sportswomen of the Year Awards.
The Sunday Times and Sky Sports have launched the 2014 Sportswomen of the Year Awards, kicking-off the nationwide call for public nominations.
Now in their 27th year, the Sportswomen Awards celebrate the outstanding contribution to sport made by elite performers, coaches, administrators, community volunteers and inspirational female figures.
On the evening of Wednesday November 19, the awards will be broadcast live on Sky Sports for the second successive year.
Over the next four weeks, the public are invited to submit nominations for the seven categories.
The seven award categories are:
1. The Sunday Times & Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Year
The ultimate accolade for your favourite sportswoman of 2014
2. Young Sportswoman of the Year
Nominees must be 21 or younger on January 1, 2014
3. Team of the Year
Celebrating the achievements of Britain’s successful collective efforts
4. Disability Sports Person of the Year
The outstanding figure within a disability sport
5. Community Award
For individuals who have actively engaged with different groups of women within their community through sport
6. Lifetime Achievement Award
Recognising a lifetime of sporting success
7. The Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration
Recognising inspirational endeavour in honour of the late sports presenter Helen Rollason
The online nomination process will close at midday on Tuesday 14 October. A panel of experts will then select the winners to be revealed at a star-studded awards ceremony at Sky Studios on the evening of Wednesday November 19.
Sportswomen is live on Sky Sports News HQ at 11.30am every Tuesday and will feature some of the potential nominees on the programme. The third series of Sportswomen complements Sky Sports’ unrivalled year-round live coverage of women’s sport. The show is repeated on Sky Sports 4 at 7pm the every Tuesday, and is available via Sky’s On Demand service and Sky Living every Sunday at 10am. The Sportswomen Awards are among the most prestigious and influential in the British sporting calendar and are once again supported by the Sport and Recreation Alliance, UK Sport, Sport England and the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation.
