TYR kit launch

TYR and British Swimming unveil national kit

2 Feb 2017

British Swimming and TYR SPORT have unveiled a new range of national team kit that athletes will earn the right to wear when selected to compete for their country or the national programme.

The kit was launched on the eve of the British National Diving Cup in Plymouth and featured a British line-up of six athletes – Olympic Champions Chris Mears and Jack Laugher, double Paralympic Champion Ollie Hynd, Olympic medallist Dan Goodfellow, Olympic finalist and European Champion Grace Reid and European Junior medallist and Plymouth Leander swimmer Laura Stephens.

Athletes showcased key items within the TYR range following last month’s announcement of a partnership that sees TYR become the official kit supplier of British Swimming for the next eight years.

US-based TYR, a leading manufacturer of competitive swim and triathlon gear, has become the sole kit supplier across all of the aquatic disciplines within British Swimming.

Commenting at the kit launch, Ollie Hynd said: “Representing my country at the top level is what motivates me and it’s great to welcome TYR on board to support us as we prepare for this year’s World Championships and beyond.

“The kit looks and feels very smart and I’ll be really proud to take to the starting blocks later this year.”

Commenting on the kit, Dan Goodfellow said: “It’s exciting to see our new kit - it looks great. It’s always special to wear your national kit and represent your country and TYR have done a great job with designing the new kit.

“It’s going to be a busy year ahead with the World Series and the World Championships in the summer and I can’t wait to get back to competing this weekend.”

The sponsorship deal also extends across the home nation governing bodies of the Amateur Swimming Association, Scottish Amateur Swimming Association and Welsh Amateur Swimming Association.

TYR’s endorsement of British Swimming comes off the back of a summer in which its aquatic disciplines reached new heights on the Olympic and Paralympic stages in Rio.

British swimming achieved its best result for over 100 years at the Rio 2016 OIympics with six medals while diving achieved a greatest ever result with three. Weeks later the Paralympic team followed up with arguably its most impressive performance in the history of the Games with a total of 47 medals.
