Breaststroke records for Renshaw and Weatheritt

23 Jun 2014

Breaststroke swimmers Molly Renshaw and Andrew Weatheritt were on record-breaking form as they impressed in Tokyo and Sheffield respectively this weekend.

British silver medallist Renshaw was part of the elite junior squad competing at the Japan Open and finished second in her favourite 200m Breaststroke.

The 18-year old sliced more than half a second off her personal best to equal Sophie Taylor’s English 200m Breaststroke record of 2:24.46 from this year’s British Gas Swimming Championships in Glasgow.

Plymouth Leander swimmer Shauna Lee was another of the young squad to impress in Japan, finishing second overall in the 200m Freestyle with her 2:00.26 effort.

Loughborough University’s Weatheritt chipped 0.02 seconds off Darren Mew’s 11-year old British short course 50m Breaststroke record at the Retford SC Open Meet at Ponds Forge.

The 22-year old, who will compete in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle at this week’s British Gas International Swimming Meet in Manchester, ducked 0.15 seconds under his personal best to touch in 26.70.
