Abbie Wood claimed bronze in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley on the opening night of the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Hungary.
Wood qualified fastest in the morning heats to secure her spot in the opening final of the Championships in Hódmezővásárhely.
The
Loughborough-based swimmer was joined on the podium by Italy’s Anna Pirivano
who took silver and Serbia’s Anja Crevar who took the gold medal.
The women’s 4x100m Freestyle relay team of Holly Hibbott, Anna Maine, Freya Anderson and Emily Large also won bronze in the concluding event of the session.
Silver went to Russia and gold was won by the quartet from Denmark.
Great Britain also saw five athletes progress from semi-finials into finals tomorrow:
Ed Baxter (Cockermouth) - Men’s 200m Breaststroke
Emily Large (Newcastle Swim Team) and Laura Stephens (Plymouth Leander) – Women’s 200m Butterfly
Freya Anderson (Ellesmere College Titans) – Women’s 100m Freestyle
Tazmin Pugh (Ellesmere College Titans) – Women’s 200m Backstroke
