Litchfield leads British attack on final day

22 May 2016

The final heats session of the LEN European Aquatics Championships saw a further five finals berths secured by Great Britain and it was Max Litchfield who led the way.

Litchfield impressed to qualify second fastest in the 400m Individual Medley.

The 21-year old, who finished an agonising fourth in the 400m IM final on his European debut in Berlin two years ago, tracked defending champion David Verraszto throughout to touch second behind the Hungarian.

Defending 400m Freestyle champion Jazz Carlin also made smooth progress as she booked her place in this evening’s final.

She’ll be joined by teammate Camilla Hattersley as Britain secured the maximum number of finals berths.

Women’s and Men’s 4x100m Medley relays closed an exciting heats session of the Championships in London.

The men’s team are the defending European champions from two years ago and will be looking to take the title again as they line up against a competitive French team that were on the podium back in 2014.

Murdoch said after the race, "I think we had a good strong swim this morning. The focus and thought was safety. We've got some fresh swimmers joining the team so I think we've got a good chance of a medal."

The British women’s quartet were Bronze medallists back in Berlin but will be looking to raise their game as they go up against favourites and World silver medallists Sweden.
