Olympic medallists confirmed for British Gas International

29 May 2015

Entries are hotting up for June’s British Gas International Swimming Meet with Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson and Olympic and world champion Ruta Meilutyte among those confirmed to be taking part.

The competition, which takes place from 24 - 28 June at Manchester Aquatics Centre, will see a host of British and International swimmers in action as they continue preparations for this summer’s Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

Jamieson won the 100m and 200m Breaststroke double at last year’s event in Leeds and will be looking to defend his titles, having retained his British 200m Breast crown in Glasgow last month.

Jamieson’s training partner and international rival Andrew Willis will once again be challenging the Scot over both distances while City of Derby’s Adam Peaty – who split the pair for silver in the 200m at the British Champs in April – will compete in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breast.

World finalist Craig McNally (50m Back, 100m Back, 200m Back), Commonwealth medallist Joe Roebuck (100m Fly, 200m Fly) and European Short Course medallist Chris Walker-Hebborn (100m Free, 50m Back, 100m Back) are among the other notable male entries.

Plymouth Leander swimmer Meilutyte heads the women’s entries and will compete in the 50m, 100m, 200m Free and 50m Fly as well as her favoured 50m and 100m Breast.

There will be plenty of top class British women’s swimmers also in action with Commonwealth medallists Jazz Carlin (400m Free),  Lizzie Simmonds (50m Back, 100m Back, 200m IM) and Jemma Lowe (100m Fly, 200m Fly) all set to compete in Manchester.

Middlesborough’s Aimee Willmott, who won two golds and two silvers at this year’s British Champs, has also confirmed her entry in the 200m Free, 200m Breast and 200m IM.

The Para-Swimming events will be typically strong with Paralympic champions Jessica-Jane Applegate and Jon Fox, and four-time IPC World Champions Amy Marren and Steph Millward among the athletes confirmed to compete.
