Summer Champs relay showdown on the cards

The penultimate heats session of British Summer Championships 2018 had both Men’s and Women’s 4x100m Freestyle relays for all age groups and what a finals showdown we can expect tonight.

Going into tonight’s 14/16 year age group Men’s 4x100m Freestyle, the team from the City of Cambridge but hot on their heels at just 0.05 behind at the touch will be the quartet of Plymouth Leander A. Rounding off the top three after the heats were the City of Peterborough.

The relay team from the City of Sheffield will lead the way into 17/Over 4x100m Free final, they edged out teams from Swansea Aquatics and Millfield School at the touch, with just 0.57 seconds separating all three at the touch. They will start from lane four in their home pool to challenge for the podium.

Mount Kelly A will be in charge of the Women’s 14/16 years 4x100m Freestyle final as they touched at least one and a half seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The quartets of Natare West London and Bromley, who ranked second and third respectively will be looking to prevent Mount Kelly from topping the podium.

Ealing swimming club quartet topped the scoreboard at the end of the 17/Over relay heats and will look to see off competition from the likes of the City of Cardiff and Sheffield.

City of Sheffield swimmer, Abbie Houston, will return as the top-ranked athlete in the Women’s 19/Over age group final of the Women’s 400m Freestyle.

In the 17/18 years event, Leeds swimmer Leah Crisp will lead out the field after she posted the quickest time over eleven heats and Michaell Glenister of Leicester Sharks completed the same job over the 16 years category.

Newcastle Swim Team’s Lola Davison booked herself into lane four of the 15 years final, her heats swim time of 4:21.97 put her almost five seconds fastest than the second-ranked athlete.

Sophie Freeman of Colchester has successfully carried her form throughout these championships, she stopped the clock in the quickest time of the 13/14-year-old competitors and will start from the centre for the final.

National Centre Loughborough swimmer Joe Litchfield went in the penultimate heat of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley but came out on top of the rankings for the 19/Over age group, he’ll lead the charge for the medals this evening.

Nathan Hughes of Hatfield was the quickest 17/18 years swimmer after 11 heats of the 200m IM and 2018 European Juniors team member William (City of Leicester) did the same over in the 16 years, both will lead out the challenge for tonight’s summer championships titles.

Off the back of his win in the 200m Breaststroke last night, William Ellington of Millfield School bagged himself the Ponds Forge centre lane for later in the 15 years 200m Individual medley final.

Ellesmere College’s George Smith shaved of 0.6 of second to top the pile in the 13/14-year-old age group/

After already claiming summer champs gold this week, S8 swimmer Alice Tai of the British Para-Swimming National Performance Centre laid down a marker of 909 points in the Women’s MC 100m Butterfly.

The man at the top of the pile after two heats of the Men’s MC 100m Butterfly was rising star Tyler Ioannou (S14) of Wycombe district. He touched in a time of 1:00.45, just 0.09 of a second of his PB and achieved a total of 873 points.

The fifth event of the day five heats session was the Women’s 200m Individual Medley and Stockport Metro’s Katie Matts was the highest ranked 19/Over athlete.

Amy Bell of the City of Sheffield served up a well-paced swim in her home pool to place at the top of the rankings of the 17/18 years category.

It was a new personal best time for Amelia Monaghan of the City of Peterborough of 2:20.78 that ranked her first and a lane four start for the 16 years final.

Newcastle Swim Team’s Madelaine Hardingham will take command of the 15 years final and Katie Shanahan of the City of Glasgow will start from lane four in the 13/14 years final, both the Women’s 200m Individual Medley.

The first of day five’s ‘splash and dash’ events was the Men’s 50m Freestyle of which there were 11 heats. Edinburgh University’s jack Thorpe posted the quickest time of the morning in the 19/Over event, 22.47 secured him centre lane.

Havant and Waterloo swimmer Joseph Page was top in the 17/18 years category and over in the 16 years age group it was Royal Wolverhampton swimmer that will lead out the field after a powerful single lap of the pool.

Northampton’s multi-medallist Edward Mildred was just off PB pace but ranked top in the 15 years age group and Guildford’s Joshua Shaw was in charge of the 13/14 years category after the heats.

Loughborough University’s Mollie Allen booked herself into the Women’s 19/Over years 100m Backstroke final in first place and Lauren Cox posted the fastest time of all 11 heats, 28.63, to do the same in the 17/18 years final.

Swim Gwynedd’s Medi Harris delivered the best swim in the 16 years final, she’ll swim in lane four to contest the medals this evening.

Caroline Lewitt of Natare West London continued her impressive week of swimming and qualified top in the 15 years age group, with Emily Iley of Borough of Waltham Forest doing the same but in the 13/14 years category of the Women’s 50m Backstroke.

There was just one athlete in the Men’s MC 50m Backstroke, Andrew Mullen (S5), who trains with the City of Glasgow. He stopped the clock at 38.92 with gave him a point’ total of 724, he’ll race again this evening looking to lower that time.
