Summer champs set to close with a bang

29 Jul 2018

The sixth day of heats served up an action-packed morning of swimming which means we’ve got an electrifying night of finals racing ahead of us to bring the meet to a close.

The session began with the Men’s 200m Freestyle and in the 19/Over year age group, Stockport Metro’s Kyle Chisholm was the man on top and will go in search of gold.

Samuel Osbourne of the City of Birmingham headed up the rankings of the 17/18 years age group and multi-summer champs medallist Matthew Richards of the Royal Wolverhampton School did the same for the 16-year-old event category.

Northampton’s Edward Mildred has carried his impressive form throughout all six days of competition in Sheffield and he will lead out the 15 years final of the 200m Freestyle.

Derventio’s Jacob Whittle booked himself into lane four for the 13/14 years final.

Stockport Metro swimmer, Katie Matts, went in her preferred event the Women’s 100m Breaststroke and was top of the pile in the 19/Over category. She will look to achieve another podium finish on the final night of racing in Sheffield.

Annabel Guye-Johnson of RTW Monson stopped the clock at 1:08.83, she was less than 0.5 of a second off her lifetime best and will look to lower her time further tonight as she leads out the 17/18 year final.

In the 16 years 100m Breaststroke final it was Kayla Van Der Merwe of Bournemouth College that touched in the quickest time, the centre lane of the Ponds Forge will be hers for the title decider.

Angharad Evans of Ellesmere College posted the fastest time in the 15 years age group over 11 heats of the 100m Breaststroke. RTW Monson’s Jemimah Berkeley successfully executed her morning heats swim, she ranked first in the 13/14 years age group.

Callum Barrett of Loughborough University will lead out the 19/Over field in the Men’s 200m Backstroke final tonight, as will the City of Peterborough’s James Scholes for the 17/18-year-old final.

In the 16 years event, Ra’eez Warley of Plymouth Leander was the man in the number one position after all eleven heats of the 200m Backstroke had been contested, his time of 2:06.68 a new personal best.

Nova Centurion’s Joshua Skinner carved off almost three seconds from his 200m Backstroke time to be ranked in the number one position of the 15 years event, lane four is his for the final.

Hendrik Van Der Leest of Woking SC will return for the last night of racing to lead out the final of the 13/14-year-old age group from lane four.

Women’s final individual event of day six heats was the 100m Butterfly and Edinburgh University’s Tain Bruce stopped the clock in the best time of the 19/Over category.

In the 17/18 years category, it was another Scotland-based swimmer, Keanna Macinnes of the Heart of Mid Lothian swimming club that reached the touchpads first.

Kaylee Dekker of Mount Kelly was the fastest qualifier in the 16 years age group, she will go in search of her first 2018 summer championship gold.

City of Leicester’s Maisie Elliot in the 15 years age group and Sophie Freeman of Colchester in the 13/14 years age group both topped the rankings and go in search of podium finishes later today.

In the 14/16 years Women’s 4x100m Medley relay heats it was Mount Kelly who qualified in first place for the final, they will be looking to improve on last year’s ninth-place finish. They will face tough competition from the likes of Leeds and Millfield School for the centre of the podium.

Stockport Metro set the standard in the 17/Over age group of the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay. Hot on the heels of the Greater Manchester club will be the quartets of the City of Leeds and Guildford City.

Next, it was the turn of the men to contest the 4x100m Medley and it was the Millfield School A team that established more than four seconds of clear water over the rest of the field, they booked themselves comfortably into lane four tonight’s penultimate medal contest.

The very last race of the British Summer Championships 2018 will see home pool team City of Sheffield A attempt to see off competition from likes of Manchester and Stockport for the Men’s 17/Over 4x100m Medley title.
