Britain’s Chris Walker-Hebborn has been awarded a European silver medal after a Russian swimmer was banned for doping.
Vitalii Melnikov tested positive for banned substance EPO at the European Swimming Championships (25m) in December last year. As a result, Melnikov receives a two-year ban and is stripped of his 100m backstroke silver and relay gold medals.
European long course and Commonwealth Games champion Walker-Hebborn (National Centre, Bath) finished joint-third in the 100m backstroke. He is now promoted to the silver medal along with Camille Lacourt of France.
