World Record Opener for Peaty

Olympic debutant Adam Peaty posts a new World record time in his 100m Breaststroke heats on the opening night of the swimming at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

He cruised into the wall posting a new time of 57.55 lowering his own existing record to top the Rio 2016 rankings in the penultimate event of the opening heats session.

He was joined in by fellow Team GB athlete Ross Murdoch who also made also made it through to tonight’s semi-finals.

Max Litchfield started the British campaign in the pool in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley as he qualified fifth fastest for the final with a new lifetime best of 4:11.95

In the Women’s 400m Individual Medley we saw both GB heats swimmers progress through to the finals. Hannah Miley and Aimee Willmott booked themselves finals births.

James Guy looked strong as he placed himself in the final of the Men’s 400m Freestyle. Stephen Milne also went in the 400m Free, nudged just outside of the finals berths but secured himself a new Scottish record of 3:46.00.
