Commonwealth champion Tom Hamer (S14) is ready to defend his British Para-Swimming International Meet title in the Men’s MC 200m Freestyle.

Commonwealth champion Tom Hamer (S14) is ready to defend his British Para-Swimming International Meet title in the Men’s MC 200m Freestyle.

Hamer topped the rankings after four heats and posted a score of 941 points after stopping the clock at 1:58.52, his time is a little over a second off the Dublin 2018 European Championships and he’s got more to give tonight.

Jordan Catchpole (S14) was back in action after collecting gold on day three of the competition in Sheffield, in the Men’s 100m Backstroke. His points total of 876 means he will also return for the finals and contest medals in an event dominated by S14 swimmers.

Tully Kearney (S5) set a new British record in the heats of the Women’s MC 200m Freestyle. Her time, 2:48.51, is also inside the qualifying European standard and she goes through as the top ranked qualifier into this evening’s final.

S14 Brits Jessica-Jane Applegate and Bethany Firth were hot on the heels of Kearney, they placed second and third with 856 and 808 points respectively.

In the Women’s MC 400m Freestyle it was Lisette Bruinsma of the Netherlands (S11) who came out on top in the heats. The visually impaired swimmer stopped the clock at 5:19.95 to score 951 points.

The highest placed Brit was Eleanor Simmonds (S6) with 826 points after she reached the wall in 5:35.26.

Lewis White (S9) ranked second after six heats of the Men’s MC 400m Freestyle with 842 points, only 12 behind Argentina’s Farcundo Arregui.
