Britain’s best Para-Swimmers are ready to kick off their bids to qualify for this summer’s IPC Swimming World Championships at the British Para-Swimmers International Meet.
Over 300 athletes will be descending on Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre for the four-day competition that runs from Thursday (26 March) through to Sunday (29 March).
Amongst those trying to qualify will be four-time Paralympic Champion Ellie Simmonds who will be aiming to qualify for her fourth World Championships.
Sascha Kindred, who has won 12 Paralympic medals in his 20 year career, will be aiming to seal qualification to his seventh World Championships.
The competition sees athletes from 23 nations competing for honours in the pool that will be used for the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships.
For Head Coach Rob Greenwood this competition will be a good marker of where the athletes are and what they can improve ahead of the Glasgow World Championships.
“This competition is an important marker for the season ahead,” Greenwood said. “The sport is moving forwards and our athletes need to be doing the same, these trials are our first opportunity to show how successful our training and preparation has been.
“The standard of international competition over this Paralympic cycle has risen and I expect it to continue to do so for the next two years so we have raised the selection standards for this year in line with this to ensure that we have a streamlined, focused and above all an extremely competitive team this Summer in Glasgow.”
