Rogers breaks world record in superb World Series showing

17 Mar 2025

Faye Rogers set a pulsating new world record to headline a strong showing from the Aquatics GB team that contested the weekend's Para Swimming World Series event in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy.

Paralympic gold medallist Rogers powered her way to the multi-classification Women's 200m Butterfly title on Friday, touching in 2:22.77 to smash the previous world best in her S10 classification and etch her name into the record books.

That shining moment was followed by a European S10 record of 1:05.46 in the 100m Butterfly as she picked up a silver World Series medal, on top of a bronze apiece in the MC 100m and 400m Freestyle contests across a superb competition for the University of Aberdeen Performance Swim Team athlete.

Britain's other senior World Series gold of the meet was won by Ellie Challis, who again impressed in the 50m Backstroke event that brought her a maiden Paralympic title in Paris. Here, multi-classification World Series gold in that contest was added to by a 200m Freestyle silver and 150m Individual Medley bronze.

Bruce Dee won an eye-catching 200m Individual Medley silver on the men's side, while Astrid Carroll secured two medals in youth finals - including stepping on to the top of the podium as the 100m Breaststroke youth champion after a brilliant swim.

On top of an impressive medal return, the Aquatics GB cohort will have benefited from some intense in-season racing in an international environment featuring athletes from 39 nations, as they ultimately continue their preparations for next month's Aquatics GB Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre.
