IPC world champion Hannah Russell smashed her own world record as some of the youngest members of the British Gas GBR Para-Swimming team impressed at the DSE National Junior & Youth Championships 2014.
Competing in the short course event at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, four-time IPC world champion Amy Marren also bagged a European record while Paralympic and IPC world champion Jessica-Jane Applegate set five new British markers.
Russell’s world record came in the MC 100m Backstroke as the S12 swimmer clocked 1:05.78, knocking more than a second off her own PB and more than two seconds off her old world record.
The 17-year old also clocked a British record in the MC 100m Individual Medley, beating her old marker by 0.73 as she touched in 1:08.90.
Marren’s new European record came in her favourite event, the MC 200m Individual Medley, as the S9 swimmer beat her old time by exactly a second with her 2:32.35 effort.
The 15-year old showed her fine form with personal bests over 400m Freestyle (4:41.42) and 100m Butterfly (1:10.64).
Applegate was untouchable as she soared to new S14 British markers in the 50m (27.70), 100m (59.69) and 200m Freestyle (2:09.30) as well as both the 100m (1:10.02) and 200m Individual Medley (2:29.48) events.
Chloe Davies also ducked under the old SM14 200m Individual Medley British record with a personal best 2:30.41 to go with her PB efforts in the 100m (1:02.00) and 200m Freestyle (2:11.67).
The 15-year old also celebrated a British record in her favourite 100m Backstroke as she touched in 1:07.05.
The other British records in the IPC classifications went to Andrew Mullen, Kahoru Harazawa and Thomas Hamer.
IPC world silver medallist Mullen (SM5) sliced more than three seconds off his old 100m Individual Medley record with a 1:28.47 while Harazawa (SM10) lowered his own records over 100m (1:03.54) and 200m (2:16.72) Individual Medley.
Finally, 15-year old Hamer showed his potential ahead of April’s British Para-Swimming International Meet with an S14 British record over 200m Freestyle, becoming the first S14 swimmer to break the two minute barrier with a 1:59.75 swim.
