Tournament hosts Scotland took maximum points with two wins against Wales on the opening day of the Commonwealth Water Polo Championships 2014 in Aberdeen.
Scotland Men enjoyed a comfortable 20-11 win against Wales in the men's competition, while the Women’s match was much closer with the teams tied until the final moments of the last quarter when Scotland’s Laura Fox scored the crucial goal to win 10-9.
There were also wins for the England Men as they beat South Africa 14-10 and the Malta Men as they won 17-9 against New Zealand in the first match of the competition.
The eight day tournament takes place at the Aberdeen Sports Village until Saturday 12 April and includes both a men's and women's competition.
The men’s competition includes Scotland, England, Wales, South Africa, Singapore, New Zealand and Malta. The women's competition includes Scotland, England, Wales, South Africa and Canada.
This is the third time the tournament has taken place and follows successful events in Manchester in 2002 and Perth, Australia in 2006.
